Mixed Media
The link between our senses is so close that we tend to blur the lines between them. You may have heard of the phrase "we eat with our eyes" referring to the fact that we are drawn to eat what looks attractive to us. These senses converge to create emotions of excitement and happiness within ourselves but rarely does the sensation of flavor help us explore the emotions of melancholia, anxiety, or anger. We usually look towards the arts for a cathartic and safe study of these emotions.
Mixed Media expands the limitations of emotion that flavor imparts on us by banding together art and cocktails under one signet. Using the flavor of creatively crafted cocktails by one of Columbus's top bartenders, guests will be able to gaze upon selected works of a local artist. This confluence of sight, smell, and taste will supplement one another to create a more immersive experience for the viewer.
How exactly can this be achieved? By removing the menu from the bar. Your menu will be the gallery. View the work on the wall and find a piece that resonates with you, order that piece through the bartender and you will receive a cocktail that has been thoughtfully prepared with a flavor profile that reflects the emotions of the art. Sip, stare, and think.
Each event we will feature a different artist and a different bartender who will collaborate to make a new multi-sensory experience.
This month make sure to bring your headphones! We are treading off the beaten path and pairing together sound with cocktails for a whole new experience. For our artist we are featuring Sam Gwin, a producer, mixer, and DJ who has had his pulse on the music scene for the past 15 years! Alongside him will be bartender John Maher, a legend in Columbus, IYKYK.
Because sound will be involved, this iteration of Mixed Media will work a bit differently than the others. John’s drinks are going to be based upon the genres of music that Sam is spinning. Your menu will be that selection of genres. We will have QR codes set up for you to scan and listen to the song we have chosen to highlight that genre, or you can read the accompanied material to help you make your decision.
However you choose to participate we know you’re going to have a great time. Doors open at 5pm and there is a cover charge of $5.

This month we are featuring the versatility of Lindsay Koontz. Lindsay, an Ohio native earning her Master in Fine Arts degree from Ohio University, has an extensive background in the arts including sculpture, performance, and 19th century photographic processes. After years of teaching, she found her way back to the service industry, working at some of the top bars and restaurants in the city including managing the bar program at Nomad, bartending at Speck Italian Eatery, and currently acting as one of the creative directors and managers of the new cocktail and wine bar “I like it like that”. Koontz’s work often exists at the intersection between art, food, science, and psychology; for her, creating cocktails ignites the same spark of curiosity, creativity, and intrigue
For this time around P.J. Ford and Lindsay are going to each create drinks that are inspired by a selection of the other’s photos to further sketch the dynamics of the crossover between art and cocktails.
